簡単に言うと、価格が下がれば購買頻度は上がります。1000円のものと100円のものでは、どのくらい買う頻度が変わると思いますか。だいたい価格比の2乗に比例すると言われています。つまり、1000円のものを1回買うとしたら、100円のものは100（10の2乗）回買うということです。そのぐらい、お客さまは価格に敏感です。ですから、安ければマーケットは大きいのです。

　外食なら、例えばファストフードが300円（単価）だとしたら、ファミリーレストランが700円で、居酒屋が2000円で、高級店が4000円で、料亭が5万円。仮に5000円の居酒屋に行ったとして、居酒屋に10回行ったら、料亭に1回行くのかといえば、行きません。先ほどの法則からいくと、おそらく100回行ったら1回行くくらいでしょう。

　つまり自分の業界はどうなっていて、自分はどのポジションにいるのか。どの頻度を狙うのかを意識しながら自分の商売を決めなければなりません。高い方がいいじゃないか、といえばその分お客さまは少ない。でも1回あたりは儲かる。では安い方にいこうと思ったら、競争は激しい。どこで戦うかを決めるのはとても大事です。
